Ex Rugby player Chris Williams from Reading plans
to climb Mount Everest for Leukaemia Busters….
Chris’ Story:
In 1992 aged 33 Chris was diagnosed with Acute Myloid
Leukaemia. Over the following 2 years Chris underwent
treatment by way of a clinical trial at The Royal South
Hants Hospital, Southampton. He also received a bone
marrow transplant. Thankfully, Chris has been in
remission since and is doing well with his training.
Training and fundraising has already begun with a recently
successful 17 day trek in Himalaya from Lukla to Everest
Base Camp. This was an altitude acclimatisation trek and
took them up to 5545mtres (18,000 feet).
His Ultimate Goal:
Now the success of the Base Camp trek is behind him,
Chris will be working towards a climb to summit Everest,
starting from the northern Tibetan side pre monsoon
March to early June 2009. The end result being by 2009,
to have raised the sum of £250,000, for Leukaemia Busters.
Fundraising:
Part of Chris’ training involves a step up challenge;
“Stepping Up Everest, Stomping Out Leukaemia” whereby
Chris will be stepping up the equivalent height of Mount
Everest which is 29,035ft (equivalent to 29,000 step ups)
on a step riser at The Newbury Shopping Mall in Reading
on 8th-10th May 2009. Chris will also be attempting a world
record attempt of the highest number of step ups completed within one hour! The current record
is . Chris will be attempting this at on Saturday 9th May at The Newbury Shopping
Centre.

Although the determination is to succeed at every phase, I am hoping for sponsorship and to raise funds for each one of the stages. This first stage of the trip itself (and the 2nd phase), together with the equipment, has been funded by myself, therefore, all your generous donations will go directly to Leukaemia Busters. We will together, give others the chance of life.
