Responsibilities

Blood cellsThe Scientific Directors Office is responsible for devising the research strategy of the charity and for subsequently implementing and managing this at all levels.

By strategically following research objectives that are primarily designed to return results that will lead to better treatments there is a greater assurance of a direct beneficial outcome for patients. This approach forms the backbone and strength to our innovative research approach.

The charity’s Scientific Directors Drs David and Bee Flavell took a major strategic decision in 1989 to develop antibodies for treating leukaemia patients and with Leukaemia Busters support between 1996 and 2001 conducted three separate clinical trials in patients with lymphoma, acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and multiple myeloma.

Since then major progress has been made in this field generally and patients with a wide variety of blood malignancies have benefited greatly from antibody-based treatments worldwide. At Leukaemia Busters we want to take these benefits to the next level and ensure the best possible chance of a cure for all patients, we believe that this is an achievable goal that will eventually revolutionise the way in which these blood cancers are routinely treated in the not too distant future.
