Coming in 2025:

Leukaemia Busters’ Simon Flavell Research Fellowships

Robert W Sutcliffe, Chairman of Trustees at Leukaemia Busters  explained

Following the success of our in-house translational research programmes over the past 35 years, the Leukaemia Busters trustees have decided to establish the Simon Flavell Leukaemia Research Fellowships designed to retain or attract early career postdoctoral scientists into translational  research for work on the immunotherapy of leukaemia.

These two year fellowships will provide personal salary support together with research expenses for the Fellow to pursue a suitable peer reviewed research project defined by the applicant.

The trustees anticipate that the first fellowships will become available in 2025. Please continue to monitor updates on this website for more details as they become available.

Dr David Flavell Scientific Director at Leukaemia Busters commented

This is good news for Leukaemia patients. The Leukaemia Busters Research Fellowships will be a lasting memory of our beloved 10 year old son, Simon Flavell who passed away from Leukaemia in 1990.

These grants are designed to support the brightest young researchers working in an accredited research department in the UK, to take the next step in their careers, and undertake the most exciting and cutting-edge research into the immunotherapy of leukaemia.

Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis following peer review by experts in the field. The merit of the research project, the researcher’s track record and formal support from the relevant host institute will form part of the selection criteria.

Please join us in this exciting new venture in our fight against leukaemia to ensure that the brightest young scientists are attracted to work in the field. Your support means that research into leukaemia can continue toward the goal of a future free from leukaemia and help us save future lives young and old through research.
